和紙を漉くときに使うすのこがあって、それを作るための鉋（カンナ）があるらしいのです。 で、この鉋が今ぜんぜん流通していないと。 そこで永さんが捜し歩いたそうなんですね。でも全国探してどこにもない。

そんなある時、京都の錦小路にある刃物屋さんにふらっと入って 「紙漉きに使う刃物はありませんか」 と聞いたそうなんです。 するとお店の人が「裏へ回ってください」って。 そこで促されるままに行ってみたら、なんと何年も探していた鉋が、荒縄で縛って何十枚って置いてあるんです。

昔これを持っていた職人が「いつか誰かが探しに来るから、そのときに分けてやって。つくれるのはもう俺しかいないから」って言って、置いていったって。「何十年もそのままにしておいて、そしてあなたがきょう探しに来た」って。

今日本で和紙が漉けているのは、その職人のおかげなの

鳥肌立ちましたねえ。なんてカッコよい職人さんで、なんてカッコよい話なんだろうって。
